Paleolithic Vampires

Where did vampires come from?

Just supposing they were real. Imagine for a moment you're wandering the vast open plains of Paleolithic Eurasia (or any other part of the world for that matter). The world feels new to you. You're a hunter, a member of a small clan of modern humans who have migrated into what will one day be Eastern Europe. You have the beginnings of language, of tribal rituals and customs. You hunt the huge beasts that inhabit this "brave old world".

But there are other hunters here too.

Creatures who walk like you and look like you. Savage predators who hunt the living and rise from the earth. Creatures who have lost the sun and walk in the darkness. You have no name for them.

We call them vampires.

They are few, but they have been here for a long time. They come from the darkest corners of the night sky, so it is said. They vie for mastery of the night with other beings your kind shun.
Were-creatures, demons, and strange newcomers, who have come down from the sky and wish to take this world for their own.

This is your world. Until you are forced into theirs. The future of everyone will come to depend on you.

Good idea?

For a pretty interesting Sci-Fi take on vampires, with sections on vampire physiology, metabolism and neurophysiology, this site is worth a look:
